When did you get your first camera?
I never really had my own camera - Jack wouldn’t allow it. We got a few pictures through Jock, who married my friend Shirley. The few photos I have of the boys when they were little came from him because he got into photography in a big way and could develop his own pictures. My kids have often said, “Where are the photos of us?” Well, I didn’t have a camera - simple as that. When I think about it now, you couldn’t imagine being a parent and not having photos of your children, but back then it was different.
Later, when I was with Robbie, he had a movie camera and one of those instant ones where the picture would slide out. But he didn’t take many movies while we were together. I think there might have been something wrong with it. Those instant cameras were amazing though - you had to wait a few seconds for the picture to come through.
Now it amazes me how this phone has stacks and stacks of photos on it. You don’t have to have an album anymore, or buy reels of film and get them developed. That’s all changed.
