What’s the best part about getting older?

Transcribed with AI, there may be mistakes

People keep telling me I seem young, and I suppose that’s the main thing, isn’t it? I might be what they call “bloody old” these days, but I still know how to have fun. You have to keep making people laugh - even if they’re not quite used to your ways yet! Like poor Patty at dinner, trying to figure out what I’m going on about. But that’s what keeps you young, I think - not taking yourself too seriously.

Margaret and Mum are always working their magic, fussing around and taking care of me. But I still like to do things my own way. Even in the hospital, I’m learning all the machines - Jay’s started calling me Dr. Joyce! Just because you’re getting older doesn’t mean you stop learning new things. Though I do tell them I don’t touch anything on those machines - I know better than that!

The nice thing about getting older is you learn to appreciate the little moments - like finding someone else who’s a slow eater, or having a laugh with the family. We do have a lot of fun, don’t we? I was thinking about how lucky we are that we all laugh together all the time. Because what’s the point in doing anything else? When one thing doesn’t work out, you just move on to the next, bringing a smile to the dial as you go.

That’s what I’ve learned over all these years - you can’t dwell on the sad things. Yes, they’re there, and yes, sometimes they catch you by surprise (like when I tried to look at those photos the other day). But you have to keep moving forward, finding new paths, making new friends, and having a good laugh along the way. After all, that’s what keeps us young, isn’t it
