How did you navigate the transition from pounds to dollars?

The change from pounds to dollars was quite something - one pound became two dollars overnight. We had to be really careful during the transition because some shopkeepers would try to swindle us with the wrong change.

It was better to have everything changed over straight away; we couldn’t have both prices up because it would’ve been too confusing. It was particularly challenging for us older ones, though I laugh now because I wasn’t really that old then - just busy with all the children.

Looking back, my generation has had to learn so many different lessons. I’ve practically been to school a dozen times with everything that’s changed in my lifetime. But that’s how it goes - things are always changing. You just have to keep up.
