What to outline before you start a project
- Your work hours
- Do you work weekends?
- Do you work 9-6 or something else?
- Do you work public holidays?
- Who is responsible for licensing assets? How do you approach that?
- Block out exact dates!
- What happens if the project ends early?
- "don't budge unless you can fill up that time...the assumption is always that you turned down another job for the one you agreed to take. So they booked your time, and they're responsible for it, period. I always make this clear up front (before booking) to avoid this exact kind of situation. They're a business, you're a business...if they'd properly managed their client they wouldn't have let the brief be changed without a change order. Either way it's their responsibility, not yours. Help them out how you can (E.g. I'll always try to find an alternate booking so they're not on the hook), but they booked your time, and that's just how it works - you shouldn't be responsible for their screw-up."
