Getting paid
- Use an accounting service like Rounded or Wave
- They can automatically send follow-up emails if your clients don't pay by the due date
- Probably the single thing that gets me paid on time!
- Use a contract - therefore you have a legal basis
If they don't pay...
- Even with a contract, the only thing making them pay you is the social contract
- You can pursue legal action, but most of the time isn't worth it...
- "I had a client once tell me about suing a contractor who messed him over for like 90k it took like 4 years and he won but after legal fees and the guy declared bankruptcy etc. he was up 5K which maybe didn't even cover the work time he lost being in court."
- "Basically his moral to the story if you are suing someone for under six figures you do it for revenge"
- You can use a collections agency, but they take a cut
- Most of the time, it's best to cut your losses
- Generally, people will pay, especially if you pester or scare them a little
